New Delhi: Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-D) designed and manufactured a device capable of generating electricity from water drops and streams, raindrops and waves oceanic.
By using the triboelectric effect and electrostatic induction, the generated electricity can be stored in batteries for later use. The device is called a triboelectric nanogenerator with a liquid-solid interface.
“The device has a simple structure made up of nanocomposite polymers and specially designed contact electrodes, and can generate a power of a few milliwatts, sufficient to operate small electronic devices such as watches, digital thermometers, radio frequency transmitters. and health sensors, ”said Neeraj Khare of Nanoscale Research Establishment. “Compared to conventional methods, this device can generate much more electricity,” he added. The group has filed for an Indian patent.
“The triboelectric effect is a phenomenon known for a long time, in which charges are generated when two surfaces are in friction. The best example we see is the twinkling lights when moving the blankets / jackets. Lately, it has been the subject of extensive studies as a practical alternative for energy harvesting, ”Khare said.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Department of Science and Technology supported the project within the framework of NNetRA.
